Catherine A. Farnell
Cathy is a commercial solicitor whose practice emphasizes commercial real estate and property development, business law and financing (including real estate construction and term financing, corporate financing and equipment financing). After earning her B.A. with Distinction (1993) and her LL.B. with Distinction (1996 - bronze medalist) at the University of Alberta, she was admitted to the Alberta bar in 1997. Cathy has been recognized in the peer-reviewed list, Woodward White's Best Lawyers in the areas of real estate law (since 2011), project finance law (since 2014) and banking and finance law (for 2020) and was named “the Best Lawyers’ 2013 and 2017 Edmonton Real Estate Law Lawyer of the Year”. She has received an AV Distinguished Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell and is listed as Repeatedly Recommended as one of Edmonton’s Leading Practitioners in the area of Property Development in The Canadian Legal L’Expert Directory. Cathy serves on the firm’s Management Committee.
Cathy is a member of the Edmonton chapter of the Commercial Real Estate Women Network, a director of NAIOP Edmonton and a member of the Canadian Bar Association North Business Law and Commercial Property & Leasing subsections.
Away from the office, Cathy is a director of the SPS Fuzion Female Hockey Club and a director of the Elzinga Family Foundation.
