Stephanie C. Chau
Stephanie is a partner in Witten LLP's Litigation department, who has successfully appeared before all levels of the Alberta courts and represented clients at mediations, arbitrations and settlement negotiations. Stephanie has extensive experience litigating corporate and commercial matters. In particular, her practice emphasizes real estate and shareholder disputes, product liability, commercial negligence claims, and contractual and lease disputes. She has a considerable employment law practice, representing both employers and employees in all aspects of employment law, including wrongful dismissal claims, human rights complaints and negotiating and preparing employment agreements. In addition, Stephanie works collaboratively with Witten LLP's estate practitioners to effectively represent our clients (both estates and individuals) in all facets of estate litigation. Stephanie also acts on behalf of banks and other creditors in debt recovery and realization.
After obtaining her B.Ed. with Distinction (2003) and an LL.B. with Distinction (2007 – Gold Medalist) from the University of Alberta, Stephanie completed a clerkship at the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta in Edmonton prior to joining Witten LLP. She was admitted to the Alberta bar in 2008.
Stephanie is active in the Canadian Bar Association. She is currently serving on the executive of both the Civil Litigation and Employment Law subsections and is a member of the Creditor and Debtor Rights subsection.
Stephanie is a director of the Paralympic Sports Association. In her personal time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and son and she enjoys travelling. Most recently, her family trips have been to Disneyland, at the insistence of her children.
