Ellery was admitted to the Alberta bar in 1991 after completing his B.Sc. in Engineering (1987) at the University of Alberta and his LL.B. (1990) at the University of Toronto. A civil litigator, he focuses on commercial litigation, specifically intellectual property rights, licensing and franchise law, claims involving fraud or mortgage fraud, and construction disputes. He is also a trademark agent.
Ellery contributes to his field outside the office as well. He is the former co-chair and a long-standing member of the Intellectual Property Sub-Section of the Canadian Bar Association and was a contributing editor to the Franchise and Distribution Journal for over 8 years. He has been listed in The International Who’s Who of Franchise Lawyers since 2011 and The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory, leading practitioners in Franchising since 2011. He is a member of the Canadian Franchise Association, Legal & Legislative Affairs Committee. He has also served on the boards of Camp BB-Riback and the B'nai Brith Youth Organization. He is currently the Past President of the Jewish Federation of Edmonton and a past UJA co-chair and has served on that board since 2010.
