Prior to completing his J.D. (2016) at the University of Alberta, Ryan obtained a B.Comm in finance at the University of Alberta, where he spent his time teaching statistics and raising funds to provide travel bursaries for students participating on exchange. He joined Witten in 2016 and was called to the bar in Alberta in 2017.
In law school, Ryan was an active volunteer with Student Legal Services (Criminal Law Project) and participated in the Donald G.H. Bowman National Tax Moot. Ryan was also a student member of the Law Faculty Council and Curriculum Committee, and assisted with preparing a comprehensive review of the competitive moot program at the University of Alberta. In his final year, Ryan worked as a research assistant for Dr. Paul D. Paton on matters involving corporate governance and ethics, securities law prosecutions by the SEC, and the changing landscape of the legal profession around the world.
Ryan is an avid traveler that enjoys backpacking through the winding streets of the Greek islands, traversing jungles in Northern Thailand, and practicing Spanish over tapas in Spain. In his spare time, Ryan enjoys reading and exploring Edmonton’s lively downtown.
